It’s hard to make a name for yourself in the world of tablets thanks to the runaway success of Apple’s iPad. The Galaxy Tab range from Samsung has however fared better and has enjoyed a well received reputation in the emerging tablet market.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 is a quad band tablet with a 7” screen available with either 16 or 32 GB of internal HD space with room for expansion thanks to its MicroSD card slot. It has a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and dedicated GPU which makes it similar in power to the top high end phones of early 2011: in particular the original iPad. It also boasts a 3MP camera along with a front facing camera so is ideal for video calling via Skype, Tango, Fring, etc.
Overall this is a healthy competitor to the iPad 1 due with its similar specs along with added extras such as expandable memory and front and rear cameras. The OS on the phone is Android 2.2 (Froyo), but this is upgradable to 2.3 (Gingerbread). Upgrades to Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich are possible but not official and only for the tech minded.
